United Methodist Men Harvest
Reading the newspaper and watching the news we are well aware of the challenging economic times in which we live. As Children of the Most High God we find that even in these challenging times we are blessed. And it is in times like these we must live out our faith and be a blessing to others.
Each year the United Methodist Men of the Ruffin Parish collect canned goods and dry foods to provide a Thanksgiving meal for families in the surrounding communities. Last year they were able to provide meals for 30 families.
This year they are asking members and friends to help them pour out a double portion of blessings and provide at least 60 families in the surrouding communities with a Thanksgiving meal.
Donations are currently being accepted on:

The Choir held their Christmas Program on December 20, 2008 at 6:30pm. They looked lovely and sang like Angles. The program was dedicated to Sis. Lula, Sis. Idonia, Sis. Kaite and Bro. John as they have all served over 50 years as a part of the choir. Also on program were the children who read poems and had a Christmas story read to them.
Got Tea?
We do. The United Methodist Women sponsored the Four Seasons Tea on November 9th, 2008 at 3:00pm. Our theme for the program was Christians Committed to Christ and delivering the message was Sis. Thelma Lucas. After a wonderful message giving testament to numerous Biblical examples of those who dedicated their lives to Christ and irregardless of the situation showed their commitment to God we gathered in the fellowship hall and had some Tea.
Come taste and see that the Lord is Good.
Buckhead United Methodist Church is hosted their first Open House to share with the world what God is doing in our faith community. Every Sunday in the month of October we had a special fellowship social so you can get to know us better. We thank all of those who stopped in to get to know Christ through us.

On October 4, 2008 at 4:00pm the United Methodist Women sponsored a Hat Show. We modeled our finest hats and had a great time of fellowship. Who said that Christians don't know how to have a good time. Led by our Mistress of Ceremony Sis. Alice we took out all the stops and were beautiful sights to behold. Pictures coming soon.
Happy Father's Day
June 15, 2008
Father knows best and also how to dress. Happy Father's Day to tall Fathers especially the men of Buckhead United Methodist Church. Don't they look dashing?
We are so grateful that God has placed you all as Fathers in our homes and leaders in our Church. Our prayer is that God continually bless all of you. We also pray a special prayer for our younger generation that stood so proudly with you that you will continue to train them up in the way of God.

Vacation Bible School
We had a great time, we danced together, sung together, ate together and learned together how to Walk it Out Together in the Way of Jesus.
This was the theme for this year's Vacation Bible School. We had 135 in attendance for the week and it was great and everyone took part from the youngest to the oldest.
Isn't it a beautiful thing when we can come together in the Name of Jesus and have a good time?
SC Annual Conference
The SC Annual Conference will be held in Florence, SC from June 1 - 4, 2008. This year's theme is "Dare to Change the World". Check it out.
Ushers' Annual Day
The Ushers hosted their Annual Ushers Day Program on June 1, 2008 at 3:00pm, and we had a grand time.
From the spoken word delivered by Minister Varnadoe to the recognition of those who serve as Universal Ushers, everyone walked away feeling the presence of the Lord.
The theme for this event was "It can be done and we're doing it." Yes, Ushers you did it with style. Check out our growing Junior Usher Board.
Taste of Buckhead

What a wonderful time of fellowship we had on May 24, 2008 at our Taste of Buckhead. Thirty-one friends and family came out to taste the delightful dishes so lovingly prepared by our members.

Sis. Rhonda would like to thank all of the members who contributed especially those who sent their dishes even though for various reasons they could not be with us. We had good food and good fellowship in the name of the Lord.

National Day of Prayer is a world wide call for all Christians to come together in prayer. At Buckhead we chose to go beyond the walls of our church into our community on a Prayer Walk led by our Evangelism Chair, Sis. Annie. We were few in number, Sis. Vivian, Sis. Pernice, Sis. Priscilla, Sis. Rhonda, but we were able to pray with many people in the community.
A Community that Cares
Thanks to all the members of the Relay for Life team chaired by Sis. Susan for hosting a Yard Sale with all benefits going to to Relay for Life to be held on May 16 - 17, 2008 in Walterboro, SC. Special thanks to Sis. Thelma for volunteering the Social Security Administration Building Parking Lot to host the sale.

New Beginnings
Thank God for new beginnings and those who make it possible. Sis. Kimberly volunteered to teach the first children's bible study in several years and had her first two students, Sylvester and Sydney pictured below.
These students are visibly excited about their newly found place in our church and are thankful for their teacher. The bible study began with the Companions in Christ: "The Way of the Child" written by Wynn McGregor.

Our Youth Department sponsored this years Christmas play and it was a pure delight. From the wide eyed wonder of as child and the love of a faithful mother we watched the story "God Gave Us Christmas" unfold.
We celebrated our 126th Church Anniversary. It was held on March 25th, 2007 in Ruffin, SC. Our guest speaker for the event was our former pastor, Rev. Wendell Sumter of Jerusalem and Zion United Methodist Churches located in the Cross Charge.
Our current pastor, Rev. Delbert M. Brown presided and we were also honored to have with us Rev. Joe Gibbs of Sykes Savannah and Red Root United Methodist Churches of the Bells Charge and Rev. James Cannion of New Life United Methodist Church in Walterboro. We celebrated the goodness of God to our church through songs, prayers and the spoken word.
We were honored with correspondence from both our SC Conference Bishop, Rev. Mary Virginia Taylor and our Walterboro District Superintendent, Rev. Ernest C. Etheredge who both conveyed their love and support for us as we celebrated such a momentous occasion and kept us in their prayers. We are proud to be an active part of this dynamic district and spirit filled conference.
We would like to thank all of our friends and family from both near and far that came out to celebrate this joyous occasion and all those who sent their prayers and their gifts. We really had a high time in the Lord and encouraged to keep the faith and continue working diligently in the vineyard keeping our hearts opened to the Lord, our minds opened to receive understanding and our doors open to share with all who may come in.
Rev. Delbert M. Brown & First Lady Dianne Brown and the members of Buckhead United Methodist Church would like to thank all who participated in this day.
Tea Anyone?
The Annual Four Season Tea is a function of the United Methodist Women and this year it was chaired by Sis. Joann Dubois and co-chaired by Sis. Thelma Hudson. The theme for the event was "Willing to be Used by the Master" and the speaker was Minister Pattie Gordon of New Harmony United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC. We had wonderful fellowship and food as we celebrated the four seasons in which we received the unmerited goodness of God .
